More favorite trends...

I posted a couple of Fall '09 trends that I loved but Style.com just keeps bringing the thunder so...here's one more:

Smart Investments - suits and cute "vestments"

Styling Solution: Buy a lightweight wool suit at Banana Republic or better yet, a vintage shop. Neutrals will give the most bang for your buck. Adding a brightly colored or printed shirt to a grey/black/tan suit looks put together and smart! You can also go totally monochromatic and just add amazing, flashy shoes for a "she's-so-serious-wait-a-minute-check-those-sassy-shoes" look.

What Not To Wear...Beavercreek

So, my sister-in-law is this insanely fit, petite, naturally curly, red-headed hottie. She is a rock star stay-at-home mom, graphic designer and fitness instructor on the side, PTA president and honestly puts Martha Stewart to shame most of the time.

There are few areas of her life where she struggles but her closet is a big one. She consistently has asked me to "help" in her closet and we finally did it! She definitely has a "uniform". Jeans, t-shirts and hoodies. If she ever wears anything BUT her uniform, people notice.

So, we started by reviewing everything in her closet, getting rid of pretty much anything floral and all her overly-chunky-heeled 90's shoes. Next, we started talking about the garments she had purchased and literally never worn because she just didn't know how to wear them. We put together over a half-dozen outfits that I think range from helping-in-the-classroom-chic to date-night-fab!

Check it out:

Special thanks to grandma Miriam for the beautiful jewelry that finished off so many of the looks perfectly!

Fall Trends

Ok, according to style.com, here are a couple of the top trends of Fall 2009. I chose these over the others because:

A) I love them and

B) I kind of despise the other ones (ex. "Party like it's 1983" - no thank you)

Obviously, these trends look amazing on the runway but what can a "normal" girl do to make the trend her own without breaking the bank??

#1) Biker-style jackets/vests - fitted and cropped with zippers, studs and even spikes!

Styling Solution:
Try one of these great "biker/moto jackets" at Forever 21 for under $40!

So, maybe you only wear it a few times this fall and winter but, you'll have a great item for a last minute Halloween costume for years to come!

#2 - Forties and Fabulous -
Long lines, nipped at the waist with a belt or without, and a little volume at the shoulder.

Styling Solution:
  • Take a shirt dress or even an over sized shirt, pair with leggings and throw on a belt.
  • Wear a pencil skirt and jacket that nips in at the waist with killer heels.
  • Pull out old trench coats and update them with a scarf or remove the trench coat tie and put a belt on instead.

Don't trust me...go out and look at all the Fall 2009 trends...I'll let you decide which ones I left out on purpose.

Like what you see, girlfriends!

Woodburn Outlets

We went to the Woodburn outlets today...oy. I got an amazing Cole Haan bag (burnt orange basket weave) and a pair of camel/black patent wedge sandals.

BCBG had some amazing sales and I got a great cream/gold trench coat.

I also went to the J. Crew store, bought a comfy weekend dress and drooled over all the fall jackets and colorful corduroy in great colors like weathered wisteria, faded black, ecru, eucalyptus, glazed pecan, graphite, heathered rosebud, light olive, and shadow.
Click here to check them out!

I shall post pics in a couple days (of my purchases, not the drool).

Weekend Wear

Let's talk weekend wear...it seems appropriate as we are at 3:48 PM and counting on a Friday...

My favorite things to wear on weekends - flowy dresses, oversized tshirts with scarves or accessories (to make it clear you aren't just wearing it to hide something or out of laziness) and the pièce de résistance; my husband's long fleece shorts with cargo pockets. I know, I know...it sounds goofy but they're comfortable and look damn cute.

My sister-in-law always describes my look as "sassy". I'm not 100% sure what that means but after some delving, I think she means that even on the weekend, when people traditionally "dress down", I take the time to put on jewelry and lip gloss and look like I care. Try it...for one weekend. See how you feel.

Have an awesome weekend. Look in the mirror and like what you see....
